The gardening season is taking off in Western New York.

A sale of compost bins and rain barrels is set in Erie County, and many garden clubs and organizations are holding plant sales. When you’re looking for plants, gardening supplies and landscapers, check out the businesses that support Buffalo-NiagaraGardening.com. Sale of compost bins, rain barrels

A sale of rain barrels, compost bins and accessories is being held by the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning, the City of Buffalo and the Western New York Stormwater Coalition.

Prices are 50 percent off retail. Quantities are limited and the deadline to order is May 31. You can see items and prices and order online here.

You have to pick up your items on June 10. See the pick-up times and locations here.

Plant sales

Many garden clubs hold plant sales at this time of year. Club members dig up their extra perennials and offer them for sale. It’s a fundraiser for the clubs and the plants are usually priced low. See our Events page for a chronlogical list. Remember that you can search by category, too. (In the black bar at the top of the page, hover your cursor over the word “Event.” You’ll get a drop-down menu. Choose “Categories.”) Check out the Sales category.

When you’re looking for gardening supplies and services, check out our ads as well as our Gardening Directory. They will link you right to the business’s page, where you can get more information about what that business does as well as how to contact them.

When you’re looking for a particular plants, it’s best to contact the garden centers directly. Sometimes people contact me, but there’s no way I can keep up with all the items they carry! All the garden centers carry different items, and their stock changes throughout the year.

We have many locally owned gardening business in Western New York. Explore them!
