A new garden walk will be held on Grand Island this year.
There had been a garden walk on Grand Island in the past, but that was a fundraiser for a church, explained Jan Freedman, one of the members of the organizing committee.
This new Grand Island Garden Walk is free. It comes under the umbrella of Gardens Buffalo Niagara (formerly the National Garden Festival.)
It will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 10. Pick up maps at the town gazebo at the corner of Whitehaven Road and Grand Island Boulevard, Grand Island.
If you live on Grand Island and would like to share your garden on the walk, there’s still time to sign up, but hurry. You have to sign up by Friday, June 10. You can sign up online. (They’ve had some trouble with the website. It may still be down when you read this, but they hope to have it up soon.) You can also call Jan Freedman at 465-7396.
Organizers are hoping to have 20 gardens on the walk this year, which would be a good number for the first year.
They will also raffle off a big yellow bag of garden soil. Visitors can buy raffle tickets at the gazebo.
Take a look at these photos of some of the gardens that will be on display at the Grand Island Garden Walk.
If I’m counting correctly, there will be a total of 18 garden walks this year, which is the most there have ever been. You can see a list of garden walks on our Events page.

I’m glad to see a garden walk again, too. There are some lovely gardens on Grand Island.
Really interesting. I was at the GI Gardenwalk a few years ago organized by the local nursery and cafe. Nice it was started again.
