What should you do with a plant that isn’t thriving? How do you make a houseplant dish garden? What succulents can live outside during our winters?
Learn about these during the Back-to-School event at at Mischler’s Florist and Greenhouses, 118 South Forest Rd., Williamsville.
The event will be held from Friday, Sept. 6 through Saturday, Sept. 14. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. (Closed Sunday.)

Plant diagnostics
Mischler’s knowledgeable staff will help you analyze health problems in your plant and recommend treatment. It’s best if you show them what your plant looks like, so take the plant or a photo of the plant with you. This goes throughout the Back-to-School event, Friday, Sept. 6 through Saturday, Sept. 14.
Hardy succulents talk
Did you know that some succulents will live outside through Buffalo winters? It’s true! Learn more during this 30-minute talk. Free. The talks will be held at 10 a.m. & 1 p.m Friday and Saturday, Sept. 6 and 7.
Houseplant dish garden demo
Learn how to combine houseplants into a dainty dish garden, then plant one up to take home with you. Cost: $20. The talk will be at 2:30 p.m Friday, Sept. 7.
Sales
- There will be specials on select houseplants and succulents. Find that perfect plant for your dorm room or apartment. Staff will be available to help you choose the right plant.
- Select perennials in gallon pots will be half price. There’s still plenty of time to plant outside! The list is available here.
Mums, fall annuals, and fall decor will be available, too.
Other activities
Build-your-own scarecrow
Take the family and some old clothes to Mischler’s and make a scarecrow. Mischler’s will provide the frames and stuffing for free. Stop in any time from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13 and 14.
Potting bench
Whether you want to pot up a new plant you bought during the back-to-school sale or you want to repot your own houseplants, make it easy on yourself: Use Mischler’s open potting bench. Soil is provided. Free. This goes throughout the Back-to-School event, Friday, Sept. 6 through Saturday, Sept. 14.
