Both contests are coordinated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).

Contest for 4th & 5th graders

The deadline for the 4th and 5th Grade Arbor Day Artwork Contest is Dec. 10. The theme is “Healthy Trees, Healthy People!”

Lesson plans and resources for teachers are available here.

Contest for anyone

The deadline for the annual Arbor Day Poster Contest is Dec. 31.

See the contest rules here.

The winner of the contest will have their photo or artwork reproduced as the 2022 Arbor Day Poster, to commemorate the holiday. DEC prints 100,000 posters for distribution to 3,500 schools, the New York State Fair and other venues. It is a long time tradition and posters have become collectors’ items for many.

To obtain past New York State Arbor Day posters, contact any local DEC forestry office or call 518-402-9428.
