I know we are all excited to start planting, and there are some plants and seeds that you can work with now.

But where can you buy them?

I am doing my best to compile an updated list of my advertisers so you know where you can get the supplies you’re looking for.

In my Gardening Directory, I have added categories for businesses that are open or opening soon as well as where you can order online, get delivery or use curbside pickup.

This article lists the current status of my advertisers that are open or will be opening soon. I hope to add more in the coming weeks. I have listed the businesses in alphabetical order.

When you buy from these folks, please let them know you heard about them through Buffalo-NiagaraGardening.com.

Dear Valued Customers,
Amidst all the confusion and fear around COVID-19, I want to provide some clarity and reassurance.

I am fully aware that one cannot put into words the joy flowers and plants can bring to the world during difficult times. I want to reassure you that business is going forward as usual, our store is stocked, plants are growing and all orders are being met.
Our highest priority is the health and well being of our staff and customers, as a safety precaution we implemented the following:

  • All CDC recommendations including cleaning and sanitizing of all delivery vehicles, counters, carts, doors.
  • Encouraging staff frequent hand washing
  • Social distancing while in store.
  • Phone ordering, delivery and contactless pre-ordering
  • Discounted delivery charges
  • Pause on Credit Card signatures.

As we are all gardeners at heart, let us pray that this situation will be contained come spring! Thankfully the warmer outdoors and fresh air will be sure to make us feel better.

Urban Roots Cooperative Garden Market

Garden center, Opening soon

March 19: It is with much thought and consideration to the current situation we are all dealing with, that the Board of Directors and the General Manager of Urban Roots have decided to take pause and reevaluate the daily operations of the Garden Center.

For the safety of our Member-Owners, staff and the gardening community at large we will temporarily be suspending business for the coming 2 weeks (starting 3/18/2020). During this time we look to develop plans that will allow us to serve your gardening needs throughout the coming season while complying with best practices laid out by WHO, the CDC and our state and local governments. Know that everyone’s safety and good health are at the forefront of our concerns.

We know that gardening will be an even more important part of your lives as a means of joy, satisfaction, emotional and mental therapy along with physical wellbeing during these times of self-containment. We will be looking at ways to provide you with the supplies you need and set you up for success during the growing season. We will keep you updated regularly with our plans going forward. We appreciate your understanding and continued support of Urban Roots and look forward to seeing you all again very soon.
Stay safe, stay healthy.

Side Note: Please remember that while we did have a very mild winter and spring actually looks like it might arrive on time this year it is still very early to be in the garden. Wet soil will compact if walked on and can do damage to emerging plants. Take a deep breath, make some plans for a new space or change up an existing bed, consider growing some veggies, be patient.

  1. Purchased a canvas sign the other day @ Aldi ‘s and wanted to share it with my fellow gardeners. “WHERE FLOWERS BLOOM SO DOES HOPE ” . I thought this was very fitting during this time. If your itching to get outdoors, we’ll be cutting the lawn very soon !

  2. Draughts in Hamburg has Lilies, Tulips, Daffodils, Hyacinths & others. Google them, they are a family farm that uses the money from their Spring/Easter Sales to purchase the seed for their Summer crops.

  3. So great to see the gardening community and local growers/gardening businesses both being cautious and mindful of the difficult circumstances, yet still adapting to the circumstances and providing (safely!) the sustaining joy of growing plants. I am heartened and lightened by this message! And plan to support the businesses here!

  4. Leigh, Whenever you want to know what garden centers have a particular plant in stock, it’s best to contact them directly. Every garden center carries different items, and what it has in stock changes throughout the year. For stores and garden centers, check out our Gardening Directory. And when you talk to them, please let them know that you found them through Buffalo-NiagaraGardening.com!

  6. Wow! Not only does this article offer hope for spring and normalcy to return, the words of your advertisers are comforting, supportive and encouraging. You made my day!
