Horticulture classes start in September; sign up now

You can sign up now to save your spot in the horticulture classes to be held at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, 2655 South Park Ave., Buffalo.

The classes will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays in the Administration Building at the Botanical Gardens.

You can sign up for an entire series or just one class at a time. You don’t have to take the classes in order. If you complete all the classes in a series, you will receive a certificate.

These classes are great for beginners who would like to learn more about gardening, and they’re wonderful for experts looking to refine their skills.

The classes are all taught by David Clark, nationally known garden educator. A dynamic instructor with a wealth of knowledge, Clark is becoming one of the country’s noted garden speakers. His classes are very popular because he conveys subject matter with infectious enthusiasm.

Horticulture I

Horticulture I begins on Sept. 7 and includes six classes. 

Topics in this series are:

  • Botany 101 on Sept. 7
  • Plant Propagation on Sept. 14
  • Pest Management and Disease on Sept. 28
  • Shrubs and Trees on Oct. 5
  • Annuals and Perennials on Oct. 12
  • Garden Design on Oct. 26

Horticulture II

Horticulture II begins on Nov. 2 and includes six classes. 

Topics in this series are:

  • Soil Science on Nov. 2
  • Advanced Plant Propagation on Nov. 16
  • Hydroponics on Nov. 23
  • Water Gardening on Jan. 4
  • Practical Principles of Pruning on Jan. 11
  • Introduction to Landscape Design on Jan. 18

Tuition and registration

Tuition for Horticulture I and Horticulture II is $23 for individual classes or $138 per series for the general public and $18 for individual classes or $108 per series for Botanical Gardens’ members.
