The Silver Creek Hanover Garden Club is starting a new garden recognition program for gardeners called Spruce Up Silver Creek!

The program aims to recognize outstanding front yard gardens that add to the curb appeal of Silver Creek neighborhoods and encourage residents to make the community a more beautiful place by planting gardens. It is the club’s way to acknowledge the value that these gardens and their caretakers add to the village and thank them for their time and effort.

The gardens that are recognized will have a chance to be entered into a drawing for either a $100 or $50 gift certificate from Yerico’s Nursery.

Volunteers will be canvassing neighborhoods from July 15 through July 31. All recognition awards will be distributed by July 31.

The club reminds residents that it’s not too late to spruce up your front yard. Canvassers are looking for front yard gardens that:

  • Have healthy plants with a garden that is appropriate to the house and lot size
  • Are well maintained and actively managed (for example, garden beds are weeded/mulched)
  • Have a healthy lawn that is neatly mowed (Edging is a plus.)
  • Have shrubs and trees pruned and trimmed
  • Have house numbers that are clearly displayed

Spruce Up Silver Creek! is made possible in part by a grant from the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation.

The program is a part of Silver Creek Hanover Garden Club’s ongoing effort to beautify the village and to promote an interest in gardening.
