When Lori Caso recently invited me to be on another episode of Lori & Friends, the popular cooking show on Time Warner Channel 20, I was a little nervous.

She wanted me to be on so she could tell her audience about a talk I will be giving at a fundraiser for the St. Francis Guild of Mount St. Mary’s Hospital. I will present “20 Gardening Tips in 20 Minutes” at the group’s Garden Auction at 6 p.m. Monday, May 8 at the hospital, 5300 Military Rd, Lewiston. Of course, I wanted to help publicize the event and share some gardening tips with her audience.

But I was nervous because cooking isn’t my strong suit.

I had been on Lori & Friends back in 2015, but that was a special gardening episode. This new episode was going to one of her regular cooking shows.

But Caso assured me that she had a recipe in mind and she would be in charge of making it. Whew!

We made Boston cream cupcakes, which is a smaller version of Boston cream pie (which is really cake). She started with a cake mix and a pudding mix, so it’s easy enough for me to make.

At the end of the show, Caso had a plateful of beautiful Boston cream cupcakes, but the chocolate glaze hadn’t set yet. She said we wouldn’t be tasting them because the glaze would drip and she didn’t want me to get messy. I assured her I would take a chance. After all, it was custard! And cake! And chocolate! And it turned out to be delicious.

Get the whole recipe and some gardening tips as well on this episode of Lori & Friends, which will air at various times from Monday, March 27 to  Sunday, April 9 on Time Warner Channel 20.
