Barbara Ballinger, co-author of The Garden Bible: designing your perfect outdoor space, will speak about easy ways to improve your gardens in a free event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 20 in the Filling Station at Larkin Square, 745 Seneca St., Buffalo.
The Garden Bible is filled with inspirational photos, including photos of five Buffalo gardens taken during Garden Walk Buffalo.
The event is part of the Larkin Square Author Series. It will include time for you to ask questions. Ballinger will also sign copies of her book, which will be available for purchase from Talking Leaves.
Wine, beer and light fare will be available for purchase from the Filling Station.
While you’re at Larkin Square, check out the gardens. They have been newly landscaped with a wide variety of perennials, said Leslie Zemsky, director of Fun at Larkin Square.
The Garden Bible, co-authored with landscape designer Michael Glassman, aims to show you how to develop a master plan for your yard. It takes you through the process of landscape design from the beginning, including how to ask a professional the right questions and how to develop a budget. It covers how to identify and troubleshoot the challenges of your yard, including drainage, erosion, privacy, noise, wind and too much or too little sun.
Ballinger’s career has included writing about houses, gardens and architecture for House & Garden’s special publications. She appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show as an expert about how to avoid remodeling disasters. She also covered the antiques collections at the White House and State Department and interviewed subjects such as Tipper Gore, Roslynn Carter and Martha Stewart.
