With this warm weather we’ve had lately (highs above freezing and even reaching the 40s!), enough snow has melted that I got a peek at the garden along my house. The hyacinths and daffodils are popping up, but they’re short and it will be awhile before they bloom.

Fortunately, we don’t have to wait to experience spring flowers.

The Spring Flower Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 21 to Sunday, April 12 at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, 2655 South Park Avenue, Buffalo.

The show will kick off with a tropical party called Taste of Paradise from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 20. Tickets are $40 and include delicious tidbits, tropical drink tastings and live music. There will also be raffles with great prizes. Buy tickets online or call 827-1584, ext. 204.

The Spring Flower Show is different every year, but there are always wonderful exhibits of vibrant tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and other colorful and fragrant spring flowers.

During the show, Farmer Brown’s Animals will visit from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.  You and the kids can see baby bunnies, chicks, a goat, a donkey and more.

The Easter Bunny will visit the Botanical Gardens from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 21, 22, 28, 29, and April 3 and 4.

An Easter egg hunt will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4.

The Easter egg hunt is pre-registration only. The hunt sells out every year, so register early. The cost is $8 for Botanical Gardens members and $10 for non-members. After March 18, the cost for both groups is $12. Hunters are admitted free to the Botanical Gardens on this day.

Kids ages 7 and under are eligible to participate. Collect two eggs to exchange for a great prize. The hunt is outside so dress accordingly and bring a bag or basket to collect eggs.

No matter what the weather brings us in the next few weeks, you can step into the Botanical Gardens for a breath of springtime.
