The Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners in Cattaraugus and Genesee counties will hold events on May 17.
Cattaraugus County
Cornell University Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners in Cattaraugus County will host a Gardening Day for interested gardeners of all levels of experience from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 17 at the Ellicottville Town Center/ Cooperative Extension Center, 28 Parkside Dr., Ellicottville.
The program is free and open to the public.
This year’s program will feature six sessions related to the theme “getting the most out of your garden.” Topics will include square foot gardening, containers and hanging baskets, companion-succession planting, season extenders, soil improvement (weeds, composting and vermicomposting or composting with worms), and pest and disease management.

Genesee County
The Genesee County Master Gardeners will hold their annual Spring Garden Gala and Plant Sale from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Thursday, May 17 at the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Genesee County building, 420 East Main Street, Batavia.
The plant sale begins begins promptly at 10 a.m. on the front lawn of the Extension building and will feature both indoor and outdoor plants and geraniums. Don’t miss your chance to pick up some great plants for your garden!
A terrarium demonstration will be held at 11 a.m. along with free soil pH testing and gardening advice by Master Gardener volunteers. A chance basket auction drawing will be held at 12:30 pm.
