The spring tree seedling sale of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is now under way.

The Department of Environmental Conservation operates the State Tree Nursery in Saratoga Springs, which produces tree and shrub seedlings for conservation plantings on public and private lands. Native New York seed-sources are used when available.

Trees and shrubs are beneficial because they:

  • Improve air and water quality
  • Stabilize streambanks
  • Create windbreaks
  • Conserve energy
  • Reforest idle land
  • Produce wood products
  • Produce wildlife food and cover
  • Improve aesthetic value of the landscape

You can view the 2014 sale brochure here. You can also see full descriptions of the species here.

The sale started Jan. 2 and continues through May, but you should place your order as soon as possible; some species are already sold out. Find out what species are still available.

Some orders must be placed by March 31 to get a certain kind of shipping. Ordering information is on the DEC website.
