Plant sales galore set by nonprofits in Western New York

Many non-profit groups are holding plant sales and plant exchanges in Western New York.

Great Plant Sale by Botanical Gardens

UPDATE: The Great Plant Sale has been extended through May 8.

Shop online through Sunday, May 4 for the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Garden’s Great Plant Sale. (There will be no on-site sale this year.)

Members get 10 percent off their purchase.

Here are just a few of the selections in the sale by the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens:

  • A phlox that is fragrant and attracts pollinators. It has been designated 2024 Perennial Plant of the Year by the Perennial Plant Association.
  • An impatiens that is highly resistant to downy mildew.
  • A hosta with frilly leaves that add color and texture to shady areas.

North Tonawanda Botanical Organization

The North Tonawanda Botanical Garden Organization (NTBGO) will hold plant sales from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 4 and May 11 at North Tonawanda Botanical Garden, 1825 Sweeney Street, North Tonawanda.

Native plants, shrubs and trees grown by NTBGO will be for sale to the public. Planting information will be available.

Massachusetts Avenue Project (MAP)

Massachusetts Avenue Project (MAP) will host their annual spring Seedling Sale event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at MAP, 387 Massachusetts Ave., Buffalo.

There will be more than 70 varieties of vegetables, flowers and herb seedlings, all grown at the West Side farm. They include lemon verbena, oregano, pineapple mint, calendula, squash, broccoli, peppers, tomatoes, eggplants, zinnias and tulips.

MAP’s Mobile Market truck will be on hand to ensure that visitors to the event have access to seasonal, farm-fresh goods.

The event will also feature a number of their partners and local vendors who will be sharing resources and selling their products.

There will be food & drink available for purchase and family friendly activities. The market will be open. 

Wyoming County Master Gardeners

Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners in Wyoming County are holding their Garden Plant Sale.

Place your order by Friday, May 10. See the order form here. Orders will not be processed without payment.

Quantities for some plants may be limited. Orders will be filled on a first-received and paid basis. Every effort will be made to fill your order as requested, though the organizers reserve the right to make substitutions as necessary.

Pickup is 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 18 at the Agriculture & Business Center, 36 Center St., Warsaw.

Plant sale & more in Orchard Park

“A Celebration of Moms and Birds, Bees, Butterflies, Oh My!” will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at the Orchard Park Historic Train Depot, 395 South Lincoln, Orchard Park.

It is sponsored by the Orchard Park Garden Club, the club’s evening branch called The Seedlings, the Village of Orchard Park and the Railway Historical Society. 

The event will feature:

  • Boutique plant sale. It includes hanging baskets, perennials from members’ gardens, trees for a chickadee and milkweed to attract monarch butterflies.
  • Activities:
    • Plant a Sneaker! Bring a sneaker and plant with colorful annuals.
    • Become a butterfly! Photo Op
    • Decorate and enjoy cookies from Bookend Baker.
    • Meet and Greet:  (more photo ops)
    • The Queen Bee and her Handsome Drone
    • The hens of Wagner Farms
    • The alpacas
    • Thanks to You Award, recognition by Mayor Joann Litwin to Emery Wittmeyer and the Department of Public Works crew for planting a fruit orchard

Other activities will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Orchard Park Library, S-4570 South Buffalo St., Orchard Park.

Garden Friends of Clarence

The Garden Friends of Clarence will hold their Perennial Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 18  at the Clarence Town Park Large Pavilion, 10405 Main St., Clarence.

Garden Faire in Silver Creek

The 14th Annual Garden Faire will be held by the the Silver Creek Hanover Garden Club from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at the Village Square, corner of Main & Central, Silver Creek. It will be held rain or shine.

The event will include plant vendors, kids’ activities, food, home & garden decor and a raffle to support the garden club.

Audubon in Jamestown

Audubon Community Nature Center will hold a plant sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at the center, 1600 Riverside Rd., Jamestown.

There will be a large selection of native plants as well as annuals, perennial plants, trees and shrubs.

Plants from Audubon’s gardens are $2.50 per 4-inch pot, $5 per 6- to 8-inch pot, and $10 per 10-inch pot.

Some local nurseries will also sell plants. Vendors include Royal Fern Nursery, which sells native plants.

There will also be a Garden Treasures sale of gently used garden equipment and décor, tools, pots and more.

Volunteer Master Gardeners will be on hand to give advice at the advice table.

Note: Audubon will not be accepting plants for trade this year due to the threat of jumping worms, an invasive animal that can decimate local soils. Click here to learn more about jumping worms.

Master Gardeners in Jamestown

The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County Master Gardener Program will hold their Annual Plant Sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at Jamestown Community College- Jamestown Campus. Use GPS-friendly address of 241 James Ave., Jamestown.

Buy great plants at great prices. The sale includes a choice selection of sun and shade perennials, natives, herbs, annuals, shrubs and vegetables from the gardens of CCE Chautauqua Master Gardener volunteers, as well as plants donated from area horticultural businesses: annuals, hanging baskets and houseplants.

CCE Chautauqua Master Gardener volunteers will be available throughout the sale to share education on selecting and growing plants. Soil pH testing will be available for free.

Capen Garden Walk & Artseeds

Samuel P. Capen Garden Walk and Artseeds will hold a plant and seed exchange from 10 am-2 pm Saturday, May 18 at University Presbyterian Church, 3330 Main St. at Niagara Falls Blvd., Buffalo.

Take your perennials and seeds to share and get some new plants and seeds for your garden. It is free.

In addition, pots, planters and garden art will be for sale.

Donations of used pots, garden ornaments, and other garden paraphernalia are welcome. Contact capengardenwalk@gmail.com.

Master Gardeners in Buffalo

The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County Master Gardener Program will hold its annual plant sale from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, May 24, and from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25 at the First Presbyterian Church of Buffalo, One Symphony Circle, Buffalo, New York 14201.

The sale includes a choice selection of sun and shade perennials, natives, pollinators, herbs, annuals, shrubs and vegetables from the gardens of Master Gardener volunteers, as well as plants donated from area horticultural businesses: annuals, hanging baskets and houseplants. There will also be a variety of garden treasures.

Master Gardener volunteers will be available throughout the sale to share education on selecting and growing plants.

Buffalo Pug and Small Breed Rescue

Buffalo Pug and Small Breed Rescue will hold a Plant Sale and Garden Treasure fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 25 at the rescue, 2200 Military Ave., Tonawanda.

There will be indoor, perennial, annual and vegetable plants. They also have a variety of garden statuary, plant stands, garden furniture and more.

All the proceeds go to the rescue.
