Burning for Biochar, a hands-on workshop on making biochar, will be held Saturday, April 27 at Henry’s Gardens, 7884 Sisson Hwy., Eden.
Discover the benefits biochar can bring to your garden with John Maher, a founding member of the BioChar Coalition. Maher has degrees in both chemistry and biology, and has been producing biochar for over 10 years.

Each registrant will receive a 16-quart bag of locally produced biochar. Light snacks and water will be provided.

The schedule is:
11-11:15 a.m.: Welcome
11:15-11:45 a.m.: Presentation by John Maher
11:45 a.m.-3 p.m.: Live biochar burn in a Ring of Fire Kiln. All the steps of creating biochar will be explained. You will also learn about the benefits of biochar for your garden as well as how to inoculate the biochar with helpful microbes. You can ask questions as the process continues.
2:30 p.m.: The quench begins. Water is sprayed on the fire to stop the process.
