From May 16 through July 19, the popular Butterfly Experience returns for a second year to the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens this summer, offering visitors the opportunity to learn about the important role butterflies play in the ecosystem.

Housed in the Tropical Orchard greenhouse and featuring a variety of native butterfly species—including Swallowtails, Monarchs, Painted Ladies, Red Admirals, and more—the exhibit is included with admission.

“We’re excited to offer the Butterfly Experience again this year,” says Shaunna Mooney, the Botanical Gardens’ marketing manager. “We want to connect people with the plants and pollinators. We’ve made some adjustments and people will have an even better experience than last year.”

New this year is the Gardens’ Butterfly Release, happening on select Friday and Saturday mornings. Under the guidance of a butterfly specialist, guests will take a deeper dive into the world of butterflies, from their life cycle and behavior to their vital role in our local ecosystem. The highlight of the morning is the release itself, where participants will assist in releasing the butterflies.

The Butterfly Release at the Botanical Gardens is not included in the price of admission. Learn more and purchase tickets
