A new chapter for Buffalo-NiagaraGardening.com

From Lewiston and Lockport to West Falls and Eden, Connie Oswald Stofko’s listings of the region’s many garden tours will be kept with the thoroughness you’ve come to expect. Here’s a photo from the City of Tonawanda Garden Walk Friday Night Lights tour. Photo by Jm Charlier

Next month, Buffalo-NiagaraGardening.com will change hands when Connie Oswald Stofko, publisher, steps into retirement after 16 remarkable years at the helm

To make sure you continue to get great gardening information for Western New York, I’m happy to share that Gardens Buffalo Niagara (GBN) is stepping in to continue the magazine.

GBN is the non-profit that brings you Garden Walk Buffalo, East Side Garden Walk, Open Gardens, the Garden Art Sale (and a lot more).

I’m a gardener, editor, and writer, and I’m also secretary of the GBN board. Starting in May, I’ll be taking over editorial duties on this site. I’m lucky to work with a great team of talented, dedicated folks to help continue the work Connie started.

GBN will publish the first Tuesday of every month. We’ll send you an email highlighting the articles and events for each issue. Our goal is to connect to you as we make the transition to manage this online magazine.

Connie’s continuously updated calendar of classes, workshops, and educational presentations will stay the same. Here, Master Gardeners Sally Cunningham and Phyllis Witherspoon Lobbins gave a talk on garden design and seed starting at Gerard Place in Buffalo. Photo courtesy Jim Charlier

What to expect

Connie’s list of upcoming speakers and talks will stay the same. Here, garden writers Sally Cunningham and JIm Charlier flank Abra Lee, a garden writer and historian from Atlanta, GA, who spoke in Buffalo. • Buffalo-Niagara Gardening’s comprehensive list of events, including gardening clubs, walking tours, educational classes, plant sales, and much more
  • The local stories, people, and information you’ve come to expect from WNY’s only online gardening magazine
  • Local advertising that connects you to the gardening businesses you love

Please get in touch!

Tell us what kinds of stories you want to read, and what gardening questions you have. Do you hate lesser celandine as much as we do?

Please email us anytime at editor@gardensbuffaloniagara.com. And if you haven’t already, visit us at  gardensbuffaloniagara.com and on social media (Facebook and Instagram).

A huge thanks to Connie for creating this online community for Buffalo gardeners. Though she will be retired, you may see an article pop up occasionally with her name on it .

Lauren Newkirk Maynard, who will become the new managing editor at Buffalo-NiagaraGardening.com, has 25 years of professional editing, writing, and communications experience. She worked for 11 years at the University at Buffalo and was managing editor of Buffalo’s print newsweekly, Artvoice.

  1. Kathy, I am just a home gardener, too. I learn a lot when I interview someone, and I’m glad you found it helpful, too!

  2. Thanks Connie for always keeping us informed on what’s happening in the WNY gardening world! Also, thanks for all your support of the Snyder-CleveHill Gardenview and the CCE Erie Master Gardener program. We will miss you. Enjoy retirement! Craig

  3. Thank you Connie for a great magazine! I am a newbie to gardening (3 years) and often refer to buffalo-niagaragardening.com for tips and knowledge and articles about other gardeners and gardens. Enjoy your retirement!
