The 13th Annual World on Your Plate Food and Sustainable Living Conference will be held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 7 and 8, in Wick Campus Center at Daemen College, 4380 Main St., Amherst. Friday’s activities begin at 5 p.m. and Saturday’s begin at 8:30 a.m.
It focuses on food, nutrition, environment, farming and politics. Many workshops, vendors, informational tables and entertainment are planned.
Gardening-related topics include “Lessons From the Garden” with Patricia Hull, author of the book by the same name; “Saving Seed in Your Home Garden” by Petra Page-Mann of Fruition Seeds, and “The Wonderful World of Heirloom Beans: History, Growing & Eating” by Remy Orlowski of Sample Seed shop. A new seed exchange will be held on Saturday.
Friday evening features a light dinner, a panel discussion on “Farm-to-Market: Issues and Challenges” and a New York Organic Action Plan.
Saturday’s session includes workshops, an organic vegetarian lunch and talks by Matthew Goldfarb on “Resilient Seeds in a Changing Climate” and Frances Moore Lappe on “The Solution is on Your Plate.”
The cost for Friday evening is $10 preregistered or $15 at the door.
The cost for Friday and Saturday or Saturday only is $35 at the door, $30 preregistered and free for all preregistered students (withID). Financial assistance is available.
