Watercolor IV, ‘Snowy Walk in the Forest’

The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens is offering new series of online watercolor classes called Watercolor IV – Masters. 

The “Snowy Walk in the Forest” series will be held from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, December 2, 9, 16.

The cost is $78 per series for the general public and $70.20 per series for members of the Botanical Gardens.

A beautiful journey through a winter forest brings many exciting challenges to a watercolorist. This masters class will explore how to capture the shimmer of snow among trees in a forest. We will utilize advanced techniques to create shadows, depth and texture within your watercolor painting.

441 – November 18 – Painting trees will be introduced and demonstrated utilizing a combination of wet in wet techniques and wet in dry techniques. Masking fluid is added to maintain some white areas.

442 – December 2 – Glazing and several different textural techniques are demonstrated and students will begin adding these to strengthen their paintings. Use of a palette knife is demonstrated and its use is explained in many aspects of creating texture within a watercolor painting.

443 – December 9 – Use of a “Mr. Clean Magic Eraser” is demonstrated and how it can create dramatic effects. Students will begin to apply these techniques to their paintings. Glazing to create shadows and depth will continue.

444 – December 16 – Glazing and all the techniques that were learned will continue to strengthen student paintings. Splattering of watercolor is introduced. Any remaining questions about individual paintings will be addressed.
