Take a vegetable gardening class with gardening expert Sally Cunningham from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 2 at Lockwood’s Greenhouses, 4484 Clark St., Hamburg.
Cunningham is the author of Great Garden Companions, which has sold 50,000 copies, teaching gardeners across the U.S. how to grow a bio-diverse, pretty vegetable garden that includes herbs and flowers. Her system is organic and encourages beneficial insects and natural pest prevention methods.
This vegetable gardening seminar is for beginners to advanced students who want to grow better veggies. Topics include:
–What to grow from seed or seedlings
–Raised bed and wide-row techniques
–Soil, compost, and in-bed composting
–Garden layout, successions, and rotations
–Requirements and timing for success with each vegetable family
–The companion gardening system of plant families, friends, and neighborhoods
–Organic tips, tricks, and products for pest prevention and management
–Know and attract beneficial insects (and then don’t kill them.)
–Vegetables in containers
You will receive printed information on vegetable family soil, site requirements, and typical pest/disease problems & solutions.
Cunningham’s books will be available for sale and signing.
