Training for trail guides at Audubon Nature Center

Date(s) - Thursday, Apr 28, 2016
10:00 am - 10:00 pm

Audubon Center & Sanctuary

Training for trail guides will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays, April 7, 14, 21, and 28 at the Audubon Nature Center, 1600 Riverside Rd., one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown, NY and Warren, PA.

Different material is covered each week. Topics are relevant for both new and experienced trail guides. New guides will want to attend the entire series. Guides who have had the training before can call (716) 569-2345 for a detailed schedule and choose which sessions they would like to attend.

With more than 3,000 schoolchildren visiting every spring, the Nature Center is looking for volunteers with a love of nature to lead Discovery Walks with groups of students.

Discovery Walks consist of a series of activities that engage the students in learning. The Nature Center’s education staff will teach you tips and tricks to keep them on task, show you fun things outside that you can share with them and explain more about how they are organized. This training will introduce you to how to work with a small group of children for an hour and a half walk. You will learn what the Audubon Nature Center does, how to lead Discovery Walks, and some natural history.

Experience with children is helpful, but natural history knowledge is not necessary.

Participants are reminded to dress for the weather as the program will be both indoors and out.

Reservations for the four sessions are required by Monday, April 4. Register online or call (716) 569-2345 during business hours.
