Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County will offer a Small scale hops production workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at the Frank W. Bratt Agricultural Center, 3542 Turner Rd., Jamestown.
This workshop will provide an overview of hops production from site selection, choosing varieties, plant nutrition, integrated pest management strategies for hops, to harvesting, processing and marketing.
The instructor will be Tim Weigle, senior extension associate with the New York State Integrated Pest Management Program who has been growing hops for 6 years at the Cornell Lake Erie Research and Extension Laboratory in Portland, N.Y.
This event is part of the 2016-2017 L.E.A.F. (Learn. Empower. Achieve. Farm.) Workshop Series. The programs are open to beginning farmers, established farms looking to diversify and grow, agriculture enthusiasts, homesteaders and everyone in between.
The cost to attend is $5 per family.
Pre-registration is required at least three days prior to the workshop you are hoping to attend in order to give staff adequate time to prepare workshop materials. Registration is available online.
Light refreshments will be offered at each workshop.
The L.E.A.F. workshops are designed to be interactive, so bring your questions and ideas.
