1 1/2-Hour Workshops

$16 regular price; $12 Friends of the Nature Center

Wreath making – 2 sessions
11:00am-12:30pm or 1:00pm-2:30pm
Come and make a handmade evergreen wreath! Sharon Reed  will teach you the basic techniques, provide the frame, greens and wire, and give you time to finish your wreath. This is a great workshop that teaches you how to make beautiful evergreen wreaths from local greens. Use them as decorations or gifts!
Bring:  Your own pruners if possible for the wreath-making workshop. Gloves are recommended.

Wee Beasties
11:00am-12:30pm
Join Ellen Paquette as she assists you in making adorable wee beastie ornaments. Made from re-purposed clothing, the ornaments involve hand sewing and creativity! Ellen makes a variety of items and all can be found on her etsy site, Wee Beasties.

Canning – 2 sessions
11:00am-12:30pm or 1:00pm-2:30pm
Food is really the ultimate gift – it tastes good, you know someone took time to make it, it doesn’t need to be dusted, and when it’s gone, it’s gone! Join Katie Finch as she teaches you how to make and package simple and delicious preserves. You’ll take a small jar home with you.

45-minute Workshops

$8 Regular; $6 Friends of the Nature Center
Suitable for children aged 9+ years

Paper-making – 2 sessions
11:00am-11:45am or 12:00pm-12:45pm
While you would normally recycle or toss those snippets of construction paper and old office paper, in this workshop you can learn how to make new paper! We will teach you the process using a few simple tools, and you will walk away with the know-how to make your own paper and a few sheets of homemade paper perfect for cards and gift tags!

Felted Ornaments – 2 sessions
1:00pm-1:45pm or 2:00pm-2:45pm
Using wool roving, you can felt just about anything! In this workshop Jennifer Schlick will teach you the fundamentals of this activity and then let you try your hands at it! Whether it is a felted jingle bell for your cat (they LOVE them), a felted ornament for your tree, or felted soaps for your bathroom, this is an easy skill that makes for great gifts!

Fairy Creatures
2:00-2:45pm
Bring natural treasures home from a trip is almost instinct. A jar of sand, pocket full of seashells, or handful of rocks almost always accompanies us home from vacation. Turn those memories into nature “fairies”! Using all natural materials found outdoors, Sarah Hatfield will walk you through the basics of how to turn all those treasures into a fairy creature. This is a great craft for “just because” items too!
