A month-long appreciation of Scajaquada Creek called Scajaquada September will be held by Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper.
Events include:
Saturday, September 18 and 25 – Scajaquada Sweep
This event is a part of Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper’s waterway cleanup program. Volunteers can safely come together or on their own to engage in direct citizen action, removing litter from the Scajaquada Creek sub-watershed. Choose your location to cleanup on land, from a kayak on the water, or on your own by completing a Solo Sweep!
September 25 – Scajaquada Scavenger Hunt
Grab your friends and head out for a day exploring the Scajaquada Creek watershed! Your team will visit locations along Scajaquada from Black Rock to Lancaster, completing activities and answering trivia questions while discovering and learning about the Creek.
Your team will have three hours to visit as many locations as possible, earning points for each activity completed. The team with the most points at the end of the Hunt will win!
Scajaquada Creek once served as an original source of drinking water, yet today is a major source of contamination, affecting the health of over one million Western New Yorkers.
Scajaquada Creek needs your help to become a healthy, thriving waterway once again! Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper’s vision for a restored Scajaquada Creek corridor is based upon the belief that water is the common thread which binds together community, economy, and ecology, creating reconnected communities and healthy habitats.
