Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County will offer another three-day Master Food Preserver workshop series from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 20 N. Phetteplace St., Falconer. The dates are Tuesday, Nov. 13; Wednesday, Nov.14; and Thursday, Nov.15. (The series to be held from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 is full.)
Space is limited to 20 participants, so register early.
The cost for this three-day workshop is $150, and includes lunch each day. Chautauqua County residents are eligible for a $75 scholarship provided by the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation.
This intensive training is designed to help participants master the process of home food preservation. Ample hands-on experience and live demonstrations are built into the course, and participants will also receive a comprehensive food preservation notebook.
Using the safest, most updated information available, participants will learn the science of food preservation including food safety, gain hands-on experience with boiling water bath canning, pressure canning, jelled products and quick pickling, plus observe demonstrations of freezing, drying, and fermentation.
No prior experience in food preservation is required.
Registration is not complete until payment has been received. Register online or call 716-664-9502.
Participants who complete the three-day Master Food Preserver training program will receive a certificate of participation.
If you want to become certified as a Master Food Preserver from Cornell Cooperative Extension, a post-test will be given the third day of the workshop. You will need a test score of at least 70 percent and do 30 hours of volunteer work and demonstrate experience in seven areas of food preservation. Cornell Cooperative Extension Chautauqua will work with participants to complete their certification within one year of the course offering.
Please note: You are still welcome to complete the training workshops even if you are not interested in receiving your formal certification.
