The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens will host a Public Art Initiative project showcasing the work of Shayne Dark from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily through Sunday, Oct. 4 at the Botanical Gardens, 2655 South Park Ave., Buffalo.
This installation of work inside and outside the Gardens is a collaboration between Albright-Knox Public Art Initiative and the Botanical Gardens.
Canadian artist Shayne Dark has gained considerable attention for sculptures that he creates using elements found in nature, locally sourced branches, limbs, roots and trunks of trees. Situating Dark’s monumental works against the backdrop of the Lord & Burnham-designed conservatory and nestled in a landscape originally crafted by Frederick Law Olmsted, this exhibition site provides breathtaking installation opportunities. In addition to several large scale works placed on the grounds of the Botanical Gardens, the artist’s work will be integrated into the greenhouse displays throughout the interior of the conservatory.
This exhibit is included with general admission to the Botanical Gardens. Cost is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors (ages 55 and older) and students (ages 13 and older with ID), $5 for children ages 3-12 and free for Botanical Gardens members and children 2 and under.
