The Orchid Show will be presented by the Niagara Frontier Orchid Society & the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 12 and 13 at the Botanical Gardens, 2655 South Park Avenue, Buffalo.
Hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Sunday.
Orchid exhibits will be spread throughout the Botanical Gardens.
This exhibit is included with regular admission to the Botanical Gardens: $9 for adults, $8 for seniors (ages 55 and older) and students (ages 13 and older with ID), $5 for children ages 3-12 and free for Botanical Gardens members and children 2 and under.
The Mid-American Orchid Congress (MAOC) is holding its fall conference at the Botanical Gardens. The MAOC is a network of orchid clubs dedicated to the preservation and propagation of orchids. This show will host international speakers, orchid vendors from across the U.S. and spectacular judged orchid displays.
On Saturday, growers from the U.S. and Ecuador will speak about the culture and care of orchids. A $25 All Day Speaker Pass includes the presentations.
The speakers will be:
∙ Jose ‘Pepe’ Portilla from Ecuagenera will speak about the 2017 22nd World Orchid Conference in Ecuador.
∙ Inge Poot, American Orchid Society Emeritus Judge, will speak about the orchid genus Stanhopea.
∙ Glen Decker will speak about the orchid genus Phragmipedium kovachii and its hybrids.
∙ Bob Snyder, Botanical Gardens volunteer and historian, will speak about the history of the Botanical Gardens.
