There will be a meeting of the Niagara Frontier Botanical Society on Tuesday, March 14 at the Harlem Road Community Center. This meeting is free of charge and open to the public.
Elizabeth Thomas will be the speaker. The title of her talk is “Stewartia, Pinckneya, and a Rare Oak: A Vignette of Collaborative Conservation.” She will detail some recent field botany projects occurring in the southern U.S., including a search for the possibly extinct Chisos Mountain Oak in Texas and collecting germplasm from Stewartia trees (related to Camellias) in the southeast. Ms. Thomas has worked in both agriculture and public gardens in Washington, Florida, New York, and Massachusetts (Martha’s Vineyard).
