Date(s) - Saturday, Sep 08, 2018
10:00 am - 11:30 am
Local wildlife artist Jennifer Miller, who is 2015/2016 Federal Duck Stamp Artist and a Pfeiffer Nature Center volunteer, will lead a workshop on nature journaling from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Pfeiffer Nature Center, Lillibridge Preserve, 1974 Lillibridge Rd., Portville.
Nature drawing is the act of going outdoors and recording one’s personal observations about nature (anything from a sweeping landscape to a tiny mushroom) though the use of drawings and notes. The result is personal enjoyment, learning, and growth as an observer of the natural world. The goal is not making “perfect art”! Because of this, anyone can do and enjoy nature journaling, regardless of artistic skill. It has been proven that drawing observed objects (regardless of skill) generates greater memory responses in the brain.
Miller will speak about the ideas behind nature journaling, demonstrate how to observe natural objects, and encourage the group to do some nature journaling on the spot.
If you wish to participate, take a sketchbook, journal, or even a lined or unlined notepad, along with your favorite drawing tool (pencil, pen, etc). If you have it, a travel paint kit (such as watercolors) is welcome but not required. Supplies will not be provided; please take your own. No special supplies are needed beyond paper and pencil.
This is an outdoor event, so please dress appropriately.
The fee is $10 for non-members and $5 for Pfeiffer members. Children under 13 are free. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Please register by 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6. Click here to register or contact the office at 716-933-0187.
