Audubon Center & Sanctuary
The Audubon Nature Center will present Mushroom Mania, a workshop where you can discover the wonderful world of mushrooms and learn more about them, from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the center, 1600 Riverside Rd., one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown, NY, and Warren, PA.
Mushrooms can be hard to identify. This class will showcase some good field guides, describe what to look for to identify a mushroom, and feature a foray on the trails to find and identify a variety of mushrooms.
The workshop instructor is Garrett Taylor, a dedicated mushroom hunter with years of experience finding and eating mushrooms. He recently discovered a new species of mushroom in Cattaraugus County and continues to expand his mushroom knowledge.
Expect to walk over a mile while looking for mushrooms. You are advised to wear sturdy shoes for walking and use bug repellent. If you have a camera to help you remember the mushrooms you see, it is a good tool for learning.
The cost of the class is $16 for the public or $12 for Friends of the Nature Center.
The class size is limited and paid reservations are required by Saturday, Sept. 10. Register online, call (716) 569-2345, or stop into the center.
