10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Garret Taylor, mushroom enthusiast, will lead a mushroom hike from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 27 through the woods of the Lillibridge Preserve at Pfeiffer Nature Center, 1974 Lillibridge Rd., Portville.
Mushrooms are a variety of fungi that produce a fleshy fruiting body and when most of us think of a mushroom, we picture a white, umbrella-shaped cap that rests precariously on a thick, grey stalk. Mushrooms, however, come in many different shapes, sizes and colors. Not only are they beautiful to observe, they play a fundamental role for life on earth. Taylor will share interesting tidbits about the many different species of fungus.
The fee is $10 for non-members, $5 for members and free for children under 13. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Sign up by 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25. Register online or contact the office at 716-933-0187.
