Invasive Species in Urban Forestry
Monday, May 8, 2023, 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Tifft Nature Preserve, 1200 Fuhrmann Blvd., Buffalo
In this workshop, speakers from the Western New York PRISM, NYSDEC, and Schichtel’s Nursery will discuss the New York State invasive species regulations; tree and shrub species that have invasive tendencies; and the importance of diversity in urban forests from nonprofit, industry, and statewide perspectives.
Attendees will learn about the process for listing an invasive species on the regulated and prohibited species list, how species are evaluated for invasiveness, and species that have shown traits that may point to future invasive tendencies in a changing climate.
The afternoon will include a choice of a field tour of Tifft Nature Preserve or South Park, so come dressed for the weather to explore.
