Grand Gardens of the Niagara Portage Garden Walk is a free garden walk that will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 18. You can pick up a brochure at Oakwood Cemetery, 763 Portage Rd., Niagara Falls, NY.
Other participating sites are the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center (NACC), Schoellkopf Park, Niagara Falls Public Library, Carnegie Building and City Hall. Each venue will offer activities, refreshments, restrooms and free parking.
The New York State Trolley will provide continuous transportation between venues. Julie O’Connor from Complete Senior Care will be the trolley guide and give an informational talk along the trolley route. Riders must obtain a wristband at any of the venues that day to ride the trolley and stops will be made only at Oakwood Cemetery, Niagara Falls Public Library and The NACC/Schoellkopf Park as a combined stop.
Special presentations are scheduled on an hourly basis in between other activities and are as follows:
10 a.m.–Schoellkopf Park: Landscape architectural presentation by Joy Kuebler
11 a.m.–Oakwood Cemetery: Hostas presentation by Mike & Kathleen Shadrack
Noon–The NACC: Presentation to showcase the Children’s Garden
1 p.m.–Niagara Falls Public Library: Frederick Law Olmstead, a one-man play, Gerry Wright. second-floor auditorium
3 p.m.–Oakwood Cemetery: The Power of Garden Tourism by Sally Cunningham
