A Fall Festival featuring the Agricultural Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4 and 5, at the Genesee Country Village & Museum, 1410 Flint Hill Rd., Mumford.
Eye-catching 19th-century vegetables, many of them unfamiliar to modern gardeners, will be found in a special vegetable and floral tent, and there will be tastings of historic recipes made from heirloom vegetables.
Adults can compete in in more than 150 categories of judged baked goods, preserves, hand-made needlecrafts and the industrial arts—including tin, iron and wooden wares; pottery; cooperage (barrel making); printing; and broom and soap making. Youth compete in 60 different aged categories, from penmanship and pottery to photography and pumpkin pie. Get the rules and entry forms.
The Market Tent will feature specialty items, all grown or made right here in Western New York.
Michael T. Keene will copies of his newest book Abandoned: The Untold Story of Orphan Asylums, in which he delves into the “age of orphan asylums” in mid-19th century New York.
Entertainment includes magic shows, Punch and Judy puppet shows, fortune telling, baseball and other activities enjoyed in the 1800s.
