Date(s) - Saturday, Sep 17, 2016
10:00 am - 12:00 pm
A Fabulous Fern Walk will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Pfeiffer Nature Center, 1974 Lillibridge Rd., Portville.
Ferns are an ancient group of plants that first appeared in the fossil record 360 million years ago. They are beautiful, green flowerless plants that reproduce by spores instead of seeds. Although ferns vary greatly in size and shape, they can be flabbergasting to identify.
Fern aficionado Susan Avery will lead the group through forest and field to share her expertise on using an identification key for these phenomenal plants.
The cost of the program includes a copy of the Fern Finder identification book. (If they run out, additional copies will be ordered and mailed to you.)
The fee is $10 for non-members, $5 for members and free for children under 13. (If children wish to have their own copy of the book, they will be available for $5 the day of the program). Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Please register by 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15. Register online or contact the office at 716-933-0187.
