Frank W. Bratt Agricultural Center
The Master Gardeners of Chautauqua County Cornell University Cooperative Extension will present their July Evening in the Garden at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 20 in the demonstration garden at the Frank Bratt Ag Center, 3542 Turner Rd., Jamestown.
One of the main topics of the evening will be watering techniques for the home garden. Since this has been such a dry summer, Reg Boutwell, Master Gardener, will review several ways to save your veggies and how to conserve water. Lawns will come back, but vegetables need water to produce any yield.
Also on the agenda will be herb gardening. Mary Erlandson, Master Gardener, has prepared a 3 x 3 herb garden bed and will discuss that garden and the several ways these herbs can be used. Jan Barelle, Master Gardener, will discuss the herb garden she maintains at the entrance of the Ag Center. Master Gardener Carol Lorenc will also discuss uses of the many herbs and how to make herb teas. A light refreshment will be served highlighting herbs.
Master Gardeners will be present to answer your gardening questions and are eager to hear everyone’s gardening ideas.
In case of rain, the Evening in the Garden will be held inside the Ag center.
Chautauqua County Master Gardeners also run a Help Desk/Help Line at the Ag Center every Wednesday from noon to 2. You can send them an e-mail at email@example.com, call the help desk at 716-664-9502 ext. 224, or drop in between 12 and 2 p.m. any Wednesday. If you can’t take the specimen in, try to take some pictures if possible.
