Early bird deadline for fall symposium in Rochester

The volunteer Master Gardeners of Cornell Cooperative Extension in Monroe County will hold their 20th annual fall symposium, “Twenty Years and Growing,” 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 in the Eisenhart Auditorium, Rochester Museum & Science Center, 657 East Ave., Rochester.

General admission tickets are $50 and tickets for Master Gardeners are $45. There is a $5 discount for tickets requested by Aug. 1. You can order a box lunch for $12. See all ticket information here.

The event will feature nationally known speakers Don Engebretson and Jerry Kral.

Don Engebretson is a recognized author and speaker on landscape and garden design. He has six times won the Garden Writers Association Garden Globe Award. Engebretson, also known as the Renegade Gardener, will share the “Top Ten Gardening Blunders and How to Avoid Them” and present “Embrace Your Shade: Plants and Design Tips for Shady Spaces.”

Jerry Kral is president of Greater Rochester Perennial Society as well as past director and current event planner for the American Conifer Society. He also is a volunteer Master Gardener. Kral will present “So You Think You Know Your Conifers: Gardening with Conifers.”

The Master Gardeners will also host a parking lot sale. Specialty vendors bring unusual plant and garden-related items.
