“Backyard Chickens,”  with a panel of folks who have raised chickens in their backyard, will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 14 at the Audubon Nature Center, 1600 Riverside Rd., one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown, NY, and Warren, PA.

The fee to attend is $16 for the public or $12 for Friends of the Nature Center.

Reservations with payment are required by midnight Tuesday, March 10. Call (716) 569-2345 to reserve and pay by credit card or pay online.

Raising egg-laying chickens in the backyard is fun, self-sufficient and educational. Not only do you get fresh eggs out of the endeavor, you also gain some great insight in the poultry brain, get some laughter at their antics, and, if you choose, get some tasty dinners once your birds are past prime laying age.

Come armed with questions for a group of folks who have raised birds in their yards. While not professional farmers, they have first-hand knowledge of how to raise birds right here in our area.

Panelists will be from both New York and Pennsylvania to cover the various local regulations and rules about poultry in backyards, and all have numerous years of raising chickens small-scale.
