Deadline to register for 2014 Gardens and Landscapes Day

Hear and talk to regionally renowned authorities on garden design, maintenance and plant selection at the 2014 Gardens and Landscapes Day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 1 in the Carnahan Theater at Jamestown Community College, 525 Falconer St., Jamestown.

Registration is required and will close on Wednesday, February 26. Register by calling Jamestown Community College Center for Continuing Education (716) 338-1005. Cost is $40 and includes a catered lunch. Space is limited.

The event is hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners & Jamestown Community College’s Center for Continuing Education.

David Clark, nationally renowned gardening speaker and horticulture instructor, will give the keynote presentation, “Backyard Ecology: Partnering with Natural Systems in Your Landscape.”

Clark teaches the wildly popular four-level Horticulture Certification Program at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens. His horticulture classes are listed as a “Go to Event” on the Buffalo Niagara Visitor’s Bureau website. He has over 30 years experience in the ornamental horticulture industry and is featured in television segments, online video, the National Garden Festival website, the online magazine and many other publications.

Other speakers will be Jon Titus, professor of Biology at Fredonia State; Priscilla Titus, ecologist, Patty Eckwahl, Chautauqua County Master Gardener, and Hank Miller, Bonsai Master. Topics will include “Invasive Plants and Native Alternatives,” “From Rust to Riches – Adding Spunk and Funk Through Garden Art” and “The Art of Designing Bonsai.”
