The Pfeiffer Nature Center will present “The Importance of Native Plants for Future Sustainability” at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 24 at the Portville Free Library, 1 North Main St., Portville.

Habitat loss from destruction, fragmentation and degradation is a threat the native flora and fauna. Gardeners in urban, suburban and rural residential communities are uniquely suited to create pockets of biodiversity to produce long term environmental sustainability.
Kathleen Contrino, plant expert, will discuss which native varietals of plants, bushes and trees, such as milkweeds, spice bushes and oaks, provide the best chances for success.
The event is free for members of the Pfeiffer Nature Center, $5 for non-members and free for children 13 and under. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
