Empire City Farms
The 10th annual Cuba Garlic Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 20 and 21, at Empire City Farms, 105 South Street (Route 305 S), Cuba. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The festival site is easy to find. The historic Empire City Farms (the Block Barn) is located on Route 305 just outside of the village limits. From I-86, take exit 28 and follow the signs. Parking is free.
Admission is $7 at the gate, $5 presale and free for children ages 10 and under. Presale tickets are available at the Cuba Chamber of Commerce office, 5 W. Main St., Cuba.
In additional to almost non-stop musical entertainment on two stages, there is a mouth-watering variety of garlic-themed cuisine, locally-made arts and crafts, contests, demonstrations, barn tours, a petting zoo, a children’s activity tent and much more.
Bob Dunkel of the Garlic Seed Foundation will be on hand to answer all of your garlic questions, and he will give garlic lectures in the Depot building. The Garlic Marketplace garlic growers will have fresh culinary garlic and seed stock. Wonderful aromas will draw you to the Garlic Heaven Food Alley. New this year, food vendors will be featuring smaller portioned “Garlic Bites” menu items which will make it easier to sample all of the delicious garlic enhanced foods. The Garlic Expressions area will offer many garlic-themed items along with unique arts & crafts.
Garlic grower Michelle Scutt, the Garlic Lady, will give garlic braiding instruction. Talented area chefs will share their culinary secrets in ongoing food demonstrations. The Garlic Cook-Off Contest will also be a highlight this year, so get your prize-worthy entries ready. Other presentation s include talks on “A Visit with Moses Van Campen,” “Wild Birds of Western New York” and a K-9 Unit demonstration by the Cuba Police Department.
