Join the naturalists – either in person or by pledging – to support a local student pursuing a natural sciences career or education.
The Ryan Exline Memorial Scholarship awards a local student heading off to college with an interest in pursuing the natural sciences a $500 scholarship. The money for this scholarship is raised through the Birdathon. This is an (almost) all-day event in which the naturalists, staff and volunteers of Community Nature Center try to find as many species of birds as possible. Generous supporters pledge an amount, either per species or in total, and the end result is the $500 scholarship. Participants can bird with the team or show their support by pledging online.
The scholarship is named in memory of one of the very first recipients of the scholarship. Ryan Exline was a volunteer, intern, nature-lover and attending graduate school at Duke University when he died in a car accident. His love of nature and of nurturing future generations of “nature nerds” lives on through this scholarship.
