2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Audubon Community Nature Center
Participants will learn how to shape apple trees to improve tree health, facilitate harvesting or aesthetically match the landscape.
Pruning can take on a life of its own, or be a simple process. This class will teach the basics of pruning, how to not harm the tree and a little about proper pruning tools. Students will also learn different methods of shaping trees, from open vase to central leader, even touching on espalier pruning. The class will cover pruning both young trees for ideal growth and shape and recovering old trees to get them back into good condition. In preparation for next month, this is the time to collect scion wood for grafting, which is covered in April’s class.
The program is $16 for adults and $12 for Community Nature Center members.
Paid reservations are required by Feb. 28 and can be made online or by calling 569-2345 during business hours.
