Spring is right around the corner and so it is time to prune the apple trees. Participants will learn how to prune trees and collect scion wood for grafting later in the spring.
Al Yelvington is a fairly recent transplant to the area after retiring from 33 years in the Coast Guard. Al started a cider orchard (Happy Dog Farm) outside of Russell, Pennsylvania to provide juice specifically for hard cider makers. He just concluded his degree in the Virginia Tech Online Masters in Agriculture and Life Sciences (OMALS) focusing on pest and weed management. Happy Dog Farm includes a community cider mill that is registered with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
The fee is $16 for adults and $12 for Nature Center members. Reservations must be made online by March 21.
