Backyard Gardening: Vegetables and Organic Gardening

The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens is offering a horticultural series on Backyard Gardening from April 29 through July 8.
The horticulture classes are great for gardeners of all backgrounds and experience. Classes are suitable for students 16 and older. Get ideas and grow your horticultural knowledge on timely, relevant topics in these fun, approachable, and interactive classes. Questions and discussions are encouraged.

This series of classes, taught by David Clark, is designed for beginner gardeners with some knowledge of plant care and maintenance, but looking to expand their knowledge of basic backyard gardening. This series is also a great refresher for experienced gardeners looking a new perspective and to ask questions.

The series runs Saturdays from 10:30 AM until 12:30 PM.� Dates and classes are as follows:

April 29 – Backyard Ecology – Topics include maintaining healthy soil, composting, gardening for wildlife and more.

June 3Small Space and Urban Gardening � Discover some creative solutions for planting beautiful gardens in small and urban spaces.�

June 10 – Creative Containers and Raised Beds��Topics include container designs, how to select growing mediums, watering, and other tips and tricks.

June 17� – Herbs and Medicinal Plants�Plants have been used for medicinal purposes throughout history.� Learn how to plant your own medicinal garden at home.

June 24 – Vegetables and Organic GardeningDiscover the basics of vegetable gardening as well as garden maintenance, pest management, how to increase yields, and more.�

�July�8Tough Plants for Tough Sites– Discussion will include common problems such as drainage, pests, deer and rabbits, soil pH and more while finding the right plants for the right places.

Enroll in one class or the whole series.� The cost is $25/class, or $22.50/class for Members.
