Have you ever fallen in love with a houseplant, only to discover it’s not for you?
Find a compatible houseplant in “Blind Date,” one of the activities during Houseplant & Succulent Weekend at Mischler’s Florist and Greenhouses, 118 South Forest Rd., Williamsville.
The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, March 8 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 9.
In “Blind Date,” houseplants will be set up at stations around the greenhouse. You can take one look to see if you find this plant attractive.
But there is more to a relationship than a pretty leaf, so information sheets are placed at each station. You’ll have everything you need to know so you can decide whether you’ll be happy with this plant. Is it needy–do you have to water it a lot? Can it tolerate your lighting conditions? Is it pet friendly?
The best part is that you won’t have to settle for just one houseplant, and there will be a special discount on plants featured in “Blind Date.”
Theresa Mancini, florist, will be on hand to answer any questions.
Other features of the Houseplant & Succulent Weekend are:
- A free talk on cold-hardy succulents. While there are many succulents that you can grow inside, there are others that can tolerate Western New York winters. They’re great for xeriscaping (landscaping that you don’t have to water), garden railroads and more. The talk will be given by Elle Kreuzer, who manages the succulents at Mischler’s. This free talk will take place at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
- As a thank you gift, get a free succulent plug (grower’s choice) just for stopping in!
- Pot up the houseplants you buy at Mischler’s as well as plants you already own–for free!–at the DIY Transplant Station at Mischler’s. Take your own container or buy a decorative container at Mischler’s. You provide the labor and Mischler’s will provide the soil and a potting bench. The staff will clean up for you afterward!
- Get a free plant prognosis. Take your concerns about houseplants to Mischler’s and their professional staff will offer advice. You can take a photo of your plant or bring a piece of the plant in to the shop.
- Create your own succulent trio. Choose three succulents and a five-inch ceramic pot for $20, tax included.
- Sales. Succulents in three-inch pots will be $3. Houseplants in baskets and in three-inch, four-inch and six-in pots will be 33 percent off. (Floor plants are excluded.)
