Kokedama or moss ball gardening will be offered for the first time from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20 as part of the Make-it Take-it series at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, 2655 South Park Ave., Buffalo.

Kokedama is a Japanese hanging garden that originated from bonsai styles. These trendy arrangements are created with a packed soil mixture covered with moss and tied with string. You can hang them.

This workshop will be led by David Clark, internationally known horticulture educator.

Be prepared to get messy; take gloves and a box for transporting your creation.

The cost for this workshop is $45 for Botanical Gardens members and $50 for the general public.

Space is limited and preregistration is required. Register here.

Two other workshops are scheduled:

The fairy garden workshop will be returning by popular request from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27. Adults are encouraged to unleash their inner creativity while using found and natural materials to make the perfect fairy hideaway. Containers, soil and plants are included with the workshop. Fairy trinkets, statuary, accessories and pre-made twig furniture will also be available for purchase at the workshop. The cost for this workshop is $35 for Botanical Gardens members and $40 for the general public. Register here.

The fresh Thanksgiving arrangement workshop returns from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22.  In this floral design workshop, participants will create a beautiful autumnal arrangement for their Thanksgiving get-together. Take hand clippers, a pair of scissors and a large box to transport the arrangement. The cost for this workshop will be $35 for Botanical Gardens members and $40 for the general public. The Botanical Gardens will be closed Nov. 21-24 to create some holiday magic, so this class will be held in the Administration Building next to the Botanical Gardens. Register here.
