Here’s a delightful holiday decoration that I hadn’t seen before: doorknob baskets.
As the name suggests, they’re small woven baskets that you can hang as a decoration on a doorknob. They’re filled with greens grown at Lockwood’s Greenhouses, 4484 Clark St., Hamburg.
“You can leave one on your neighbor’s door as a surprise,” said Hilary McHale, assistant manager at Lockwood’s. “It’s a little bit of holiday cheer.”
While you could hang them on an inside door, the greens will stay fresher longer if you use them as an outside decoration, she noted.
Another outside decoration is an outdoor planter with an arrangement of greens, also cut at Lockwood’s, along with red osier or berries. If you miss the pot of flowering annuals you had in the summer and the mums you had in autumn, here is a great replacement.
The design is more wintry than Christmasy, McHale said, and it will last for months.
The third idea is something for indoors. It’s a tabletop centerpiece made of boxwood stems arranged in the shape of a Christmas tree. They’re all decorated by hand at Lockwood’s in many styles to match a variety of interiors. You can add lights if you wish.
While this is more Christmasy, it will last long past Dec. 25, McHale said. It makes a lovely hostess gift.

They are very festive and pretty.
